Five days, five cities, hybrid gathering of Africa’s best journalists

In its 17th year, AIJC is breaking new ground. This year’s version of the biggest annual gathering of working journalists (AIJC2021) will be a five-city hybrid conference. With small gatherings in five African cities, the conference promises to have a larger continental footprint than ever before. And the conference will also be live streamed online, so that those who cannot make it to one of the five cities can still participate fully in the programme.

The five host cities are: Nairobi, Abuja, Dakar, Addis Ababa and Johannesburg. In each of these cities, we are working with co-hosts: Code for Africa in Nairobi and Dakar, Premium Times in Abuja; and Fojo/International Media Support in Addis. The primary host, in Johannesburg, is of course the Wits Centre for Journalism at the University of the Witwatersrand.

There will be three full days of conferencing (Oct 11-13), and two more days of intensive online training (Oct 13-15). A packed and rich programme promises to showcase some of Africa’s best journalism, share knowledge, experience and networking, and offer training in the latest investigative tools and techniques.

Registration for #AIJC2021 is now officially open, reserve your seat here.

*Please note that this year’s conference fees have been slashed given the current economic climate caused by the pandemic
